Operations – Monitoring & Support

When guests expect Wi-Fi, but the site presents unique challenges

Dead zones between pitches? Hundreds of devices at the same time? An area of several hectares? Or an internet connection that can no longer keep up with your guests' needs?

Campsites are challenging environments for radio technology. That is why BROADNET plans Wi-Fi based on real site conditions rather than generic range formulas.

Dead zones between pitches

Caravans, motorhomes, trees, hedges, buildings, and terrain features attenuate radio signals. Therefore, theoretical range says little about actual guest coverage.

Many guests and many devices

Smartphones, tablets, televisions, and laptops can quickly generate hundreds of simultaneously active clients. Range alone is not enough – capacity must be planned for as well.

Large and expansive outdoor areas

Campsites are often spread over several hectares. Access points require suitable mounting points, power and data supply, and a reliable backhaul connection.

Weak internet connectivity at the site

Especially in tourist or rural regions, fiber optics are not always available on short notice. Alternative access methods such as microwave links, mobile networks, or satellite can supplement site connectivity.

Campsite Wi-Fi Solutions from BROADNET

BROADNET plans, implements, and operates Wi-Fi infrastructures for campsites – from internet connectivity and radio frequency analysis to ongoing operations.

Wi-Fi Planning & Radio Frequency Analysis

Plus Icon

BROADNET analyzes site size, pitch layout, guest and device density, applications, sources of interference, and local conditions. This results in a robust Wi-Fi design rather than a purely hardware-driven solution.

Site Survey & On-site Assessment

Plus Icon

On-site, we assess radio conditions, pitch areas, buildings, vegetation, mounting points, power and data pathways, as well as the existing network and internet infrastructure.

Outdoor Wi-Fi & solution design

Plus Icon

The coverage area is measured or simulated. From this, suitable access point locations, necessary capacities, and the connectivity for individual areas of the site are derived.

Internet & network connectivity

Plus Icon

Depending on the location, internet connectivity can be provided via microwave link, fiber optics, or mobile networks. For remote areas of the site, wireless connections can be an alternative to complex cabling.

Rollout, operation & support

Plus Icon

BROADNET coordinates the installation, commissioning, and integration of the Wi-Fi infrastructure into the existing site technology. Upon request, we can also support the solution during ongoing operation—with monitoring, support, and defined service levels.

Good Wi-Fi starts with the right planning.
Campsites are challenging environments for wireless technology. Motorhomes and caravans are often made of highly attenuating materials, vegetation changes seasonally, and buildings and terrain influence signal propagation.

In addition, there are varying guest numbers and usage profiles. That is why BROADNET plans Wi-Fi based on real site conditions and capacity requirements.

Factors considered include: total area and structure of the site, number and location of pitches, guest and device density in peak and off-peak seasons, radio shadowing, mounting positions, power and data supply, as well as the backhaul between remote areas of the site.

For initial budgeting, you can estimate several dozen outdoor access points for approximately 20,000 m² of outdoor space. The actual number is only determined after the radio field analysis, capacity planning, and site survey.
Technical site survey: Understanding the campsite on-site
A technical site survey captures the technical and structural conditions of the campsite.

This allows radio shadowing, potential mounting points, cable routes, and network connectivity options to be taken into account before implementation.

Once the analysis is complete, you have a reliable foundation for technical implementation, quantities, effort, and budgeting.

What if your Wi-Fi didn't just cost money?
For operators, Wi-Fi can be more than just an infrastructure expense. If a Wi-Fi flat rate is integrated into a specific pricing or service concept, the solution can—depending on utilization and costs—refinance itself and provide an additional contribution margin.

FAQ

Still have questions?

Here you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions from campsite operators.

How many antennas does a campsite need?

Plus Icon

It is not possible to provide a reliable estimate based on area alone. Terrain, vegetation, caravans and motorhomes, number of users, required data rates, and mounting points all influence the planning. For 20,000 m², several dozen outdoor access points could be a plausible initial budget figure; the final number is determined during the planning phase.

What is a site survey at a campsite?

Plus Icon

A site survey is a technical assessment of the grounds. It examines coverage areas, radio conditions, potential mounting points, power and data cabling routes, and existing infrastructure.

Can BROADNET analyze an existing campsite Wi-Fi network?

Plus Icon

Yes. Existing Wi-Fi infrastructures can be assessed for coverage, capacity, interference, and optimization potential.

Can BROADNET also provide the internet connection for the campsite?

Plus Icon

Yes. Depending on the location, technologies such as fiber optics, microwave links, or mobile data can be evaluated and integrated into the overall concept.

Can guest Wi-Fi be profitable for operators?

Plus Icon

That depends on costs, occupancy, and pricing. In our model with 100 pitches, 55% occupancy, 29,880 EUR in annual fixed costs, and a 3.50 EUR Wi-Fi fee, the calculated contribution margin is 2.01 EUR per occupied pitch per day. This is a model calculation, not a guarantee of earnings.

Is Wi-Fi for guests and administration kept separate?

Plus Icon

A professional solution can provide separate networks and access policies for guests, administration, point-of-sale systems, or IoT devices.

Does BROADNET also handle operations and support?

Plus Icon

Yes, depending on the scope of the project, monitoring, support, and defined service packages can be part of the solution.
